Animal Control Officer

Whakatane, New Zealand

Reference: 5794559

Do you have regulatory or enforcement experience interpreting and applying statutory requirements? Are you a communication whiz with excellent relationship management skills?

Here at Whakatāne District Council, we're passionate about a lot of things. We're passionate about delivering well-needed services and providing what is needed to support our communities to be the best they can be. We want to make sure we support our vision of being the place of choice for people to live, work and play. We're committed to upholding the Treaty of Waitangi and establishing effective relationships to strengthen partnerships with whānau, hapū and iwi. Working with us means being part of a close-knit, customer-focused team in one of New Zealand's sunniest locations. We pride ourselves on employing talented professionals who like to have fun, embrace our values and share our vision that we are better together. Come and join us, take a breath and find more life in life.

An opportunity has arisen within our Community Regulation Team for an Animal Control Officer to work closely with our community to deliver animal control services including ensuring public safety with monitoring and enforcement of key legislation, investigating complaints and addressing non-compliance, and undertaking pound duties. If you're looking for a role where no two days are the same, and you want to work within a small team of passionate professionals then this could be the position for you. This is a full-time, fixed-term role for a 6-month period to provide assistance and support to the team during this busy time.

We'll provide the support and professional development; you'll provide the skills. To be successful in this role you will need to have the confidence to manage dogs and stock, as well as experience working in a community based regulatory role. You will have strong time management skills and an ability to form relationships quickly to get results.

If you would like to discuss this opportunity further, please contact Verna Kinney, Manager Community Regulation or a member of our People & Capability team on 07 306 0500 or apply now.
