As the Contracts Engineer, you'll play a vital role in managing the day-to-day operations of the Whakatāne District's roading network. Working closely with the Network Operations team, you'll oversee road maintenance contracts, manage contractor performance, and ensure projects adhere to Council and NZTA standards. You'll handle contract renewals, tendering, and procurement, ensuring all works align with approved budgets and timelines. This role also involves supporting Engineering Cadets, reviewing Traffic Management Plans, and prioritizing health and safety compliance across all projects. Your expertise will help maintain safe and efficient infrastructure for the community.
This position is classified as Health Sensitive and Safety Sensitive so the preferred candidate will be required to undergo and pass a satisfactory pre employment health and drug test.

Are you a seasoned Contracts Engineer looking to make a difference in the community while covering a valued team member on parental leave? This role involves managing our roading network and ensuring high-quality, cost-effective road maintenance.
Ideally you will have:
- A Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in contract or project management within civil engineering.
- Strong background in contract procurement, with NZTA tender evaluation qualifications preferred.
- Familiarity with NZTA policies, RAMM, and MS Office.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders and manage contract documentation and budgets.
