As our Communications Advisor, you'll provide high-quality advice and support for internal and external communications. You'll craft compelling content, manage media relations and develop strategies to enhance the Council's engagement with diverse audiences. From shaping public messaging to supporting internal teams, this role offers variety, challenge and the opportunity to showcase your creativity and initiative.

Are you a dynamic communicator with a passion for storytelling and engagement? Whakatāne District Council is looking for a talented Communications Advisor to join our Communications and Engagement team. This is your opportunity to make a real impact in a role that bridges community connections and supports our strategic initiatives.
What you'll do:
- Develop and implement innovative communication strategies for Council projects and initiatives.
- Manage and create engaging content for digital platforms, including social media and the Council website.
- Provide expert advice to internal teams and ensure consistent, high-quality messaging.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, the media and the community.
- Identify and address communication risks, ensuring proactive, positive engagement.
What you'll bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in communications or journalism, or at least two years' experience in a similar role.
- Exceptional writing skills and the ability to tailor content for diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and an understanding of the local media and political landscape.
- Strong time management, research and collaboration skills.
- A proactive attitude with a flair for creative problem-solving and innovation.
