Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Strategy and Performance to lead a dynamic, and enthusiastic team. You and your team will work closely with Elected Members and our Executive Leadership Team so need to be politically astute and confident in a constantly changing environment. You'll provide the strategic lens for the organisation and enjoy working with other managers to ensure a strategic alignment with the organisation's direction and what it achieves. This role will require someone who loves to interact with people and experience in Tikanga and Te Ao Māori settings.

This role is responsible for processes to develop strategy and policy. It manages corporate planning and reporting requirements such as development of the Long Term Plan and Annual Report. You'll need to have knowledge and experience working with legislation and engagement processes to support and advise the wider organisation on obligations and opportunities.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Extensive experience in strategic planning and policy development
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Public Administration, Management, Environmental Studies).
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Solution-focused mindset, capable of making informed, confident decisions.
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional excellence.
  • A high level of assurance working within an organisation that has significant engagement with whānau, hapū and iwi.

You will be an experienced strategic leader with a strong background in local or central government and you have a proven ability to deliver high-quality outcomes. Your expertise includes policy development, strategic planning, and managing complex projects. You will bring excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong ethical awareness, a high level of cultural competence, and the ability to inspire and drive positive change.
