  • 18-month fixed term, part-time position from July 2025

Ko wai mātau | About us

The people at Whakatāne District Council love what we do because we do it for others, and that feels good. We work hard and we know it's important to stop and play too. We're on a learning journey because we know we can always do better, and we know we're better together. Will you come on that journey with us? You'll get access to a range of staff benefits including free swimming pool access. You'll never be more than half an hour away from rivers, lakes, forests, beaches, and great walks - most are just on your doorstep. We love this place, and you will too.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Are you someone who thrives on structure, collaboration, and making things happen? We're looking for two Project Coordinators to join our dynamic teams; Enterprise Project Management Office (ePMO) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).

Project Coordinator - ePMO - 9 months fixed term, full time

In the ePMO role, you'll work closely with Project Managers across a range of projects, supporting planning, coordination, and reporting. You'll also play a key part in promoting consistent project practices, helping teams use our tools and frameworks effectively, and supporting the ongoing development of our project management system.

Project Coordinator - ERP Replacement Programme - 18 months, fixed term, 20 hours a week.

The Project Coordinator will play a vital role in supporting the successful delivery of the ERP Replacement Programme. This role provides coordination, administrative, and logistical support across the programme lifecycle, ensuring effective planning, monitoring, and communication among stakeholders.

These are exciting fixed-term opportunities to contribute to meaningful mahi, while building your own project career in supportive and forward-thinking teams.

Ko wai koe | About you

You're an organised, energetic team player who brings clarity and calm to busy projects. You might have previous experience in a project coordination or administrative support role—ideally within local government or the public sector—and you're confident juggling multiple priorities without losing sight of the details.

You're someone who thrives on consistency, enjoys improving systems, and sees the bigger picture behind the tasks. Sitting between coordination and analysis, this role will let you flex both your people and process skills.

You will bring:

  • Bring a background in project coordination, administration, or a similar role—bonus points if it's in local government or the public sector.
  • Have a solid grasp of project frameworks like PRINCE2 or Agile and know how to put them into action.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently, whether you're writing reports or leading a meeting.
  • Love building positive relationships and can work smoothly with a wide range of people.
  • Stay cool under pressure, juggling multiple deadlines without dropping the ball.
  • Take initiative, spot issues before they become problems, and always look for ways to improve.
  • Be confident using Microsoft Office and project tools — experience with OnePlan, Power BI, or similar systems is a bonus

If you're ready to bring your organisational superpowers to a place where your work truly makes a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
