The team at the Whakatāne District Council has a vacancy for a full time permanent Water and Wastewater Treatment Technician.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

You'll play an integral role in making sure we continue to provide high-quality water and wastewater services that meet the needs of our communities.

We're a small team of technical experts who support the continuous operation and maintenance of water supply, storage and treatment across our District, ensuring our water and wastewater treatment is effective and compliant with all standards and regulations.

Keeping the water flowing through the taps means that you'll also join the roster to complete routine weekend work and provide after-hours callouts when required.

This role is considered both health and safety sensitive so the successful candidate will be required to undergo and pass a pre employment health and drug test.

Ko wai koe | About you

You'll be joining a team that believes in being better together, so you'll be a team player that upholds the values of Council.

Ideally, you'll have experience operating water or wastewater treatment plants, and hold a National Certificate in Water or Wastewater Treatment. Knowledge of process control, field and laboratory analytical instrumentation, calibration and maintenance of continuous reading analysers and familiarity with monitoring and sampling of water and wastewater would also be great.

This is an active role, so you'll need a good level of fitness and a strong commitment to health and safety.

Not quite qualified yet?

That's ok - this is a specialised role, and we know great operators aren't always easy to find. If you're practical, reliable, and ready to grow your skills, we'll back you with the training you need. Whether you're starting out or looking for a career change, this could be your opportunity to step into a vital role in protecting our environment and community health.

What we offer

You'll get access to a range of staff benefits including five weeks' annual leave. You'll never be more than half an hour away from rivers, lakes, forests, beaches and great walks - most are just on your doorstep. We love this place and you will too.
