As our Growth Director, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Whakatāne District. This strategic leadership position drives population and economic growth by leading initiatives that enable housing, commercial, and industrial opportunities while supporting the district's long-term vision.
You'll coordinate delivery of the Whakatāne Local Growth Strategy, ensuring growth initiatives are financially sustainable, community-focused, and aligned with Council's wider strategic direction. Collaborating across teams and with external partners, you'll oversee a cross-functional programme that connects planning, infrastructure, and investment - turning strategic intent into real, measurable outcomes.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, planning, and relationship-building, and who wants to make a visible impact on the district's future prosperity.

You're a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of local government, urban growth, and economic development. Your experience leading large scale projects and translating complex planning and policy frameworks into tangible delivery sets you apart.
What you'll bring
- A relevant degree in Planning, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in strategic growth or economic development leadership roles.
- Strong stakeholder management and political acumen, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- A collaborative, people-first approach that values community engagement and partnership.
- Proven expertise in project management, financial sustainability, and programme delivery.
