The Strategic Policy Analyst - Climate Change role is for someone who enjoys turning strategy into practical, well-crafted policy and action. You'll work closely with colleagues across Council, iwi, partners, and the community to develop policy, analysis, and initiatives that support a low-carbon, resilient future for Whakatāne District.
You'll be part of a supportive strategy team, contributing your expertise to corporate planning, climate reporting, and action delivery alongside specialist advisors on climate adaptation and resilience.
In this role you will:
- Lead policy development and implementation for our Climate Pathway
- Provide high-quality analysis and advice on climate mitigation and sustainability
- Contribute to strategic planning processes
- Support engagement with iwi, stakeholders, and the community
- Prepare clear, well-evidenced reports for senior leaders and elected members

We're looking for someone who brings:
- Experience in strategic policy analysis, ideally in local or central government
- A sound understanding of climate change mitigation and sustainability action with delivery experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A collaborative approach and a desire to deliver outcomes that matter
