Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

As our Accounts Payable Officer, you'll play an important role in ensuring Council's suppliers and contractors are paid accurately and on time. You'll be responsible for managing the accounts payable process from invoice receipt through to payment, while maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

This role is about more than processing invoices. You'll be a trusted point of contact for staff and suppliers, provide guidance on purchasing and invoice approval processes, and help identify opportunities to improve systems and ways of working. If you enjoy working with detail, solving problems, and delivering excellent customer service, you'll thrive in this role.

Ka aha koe | What you'll do

  • Process supplier invoices, payments, grants, refunds, and reimbursements accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain creditor records and ensure financial systems remain up to date and accurate
  • Reconcile creditor statements and investigate discrepancies.
  • Support staff with purchase order processes and invoice approvals.
  • Respond to supplier and staff enquiries professionally and promptly.
  • Assist with audit requirements and financial reporting processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across Financial Processing.
  • Support the wider Finance team as required.

You'll be someone who enjoys working with detail and takes pride in producing accurate work. You're organised, customer-focused, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of people.

Whether you're an experienced Accounts Payable professional or have strong finance administration experience and are looking for your next opportunity, you'll bring a positive attitude and a commitment to delivering excellent service.

Ō pūkenga | What You'll Bring to the Role

  • Previous experience in an Accounts Payable, Finance Administration, or similar role.
  • Understanding of accounts payable processes, financial systems, and reconciliations.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • A customer-focused approach and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • Experience working with ERP or financial management systems would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of local government processes would be beneficial but is not essential.
